What are
personalised registration
all about?
The first
personalised registration
system in the world began in Baden, Germany in 1896. Great Britain introduced
compulsory
personalised registration
on 1st January 1904. A system had to be thought up to make the growing number
of car drivers accountable for their vehicles and their actions on the roads.
One of the ideas considered was to give a
personalised registration
to each car – like ships. Fortunately this wasn’t used! And the
personalised registration
was born.

If you are buying a number plate as a gift, why not send the certificate with a set of Acrylic Plates? Or if you are not sure what to choose, you could buy a Gift Voucher instead.
Commonly misunderstood by many,
personalised registration
or
personalised registration
number plates can now sell for more than the average priced house. Prestigious
numbers such as MG 1 and MS 1 are 100-year-old antiques! They are also among
the most popular initials in the country.
In December 1993 an anonymous buyer paid a staggering £235,000
for their ultimate
personalised registration
‘K1 NGS’ (Kings). More astounding was the time it took the auctioneer to
achieve this figure – just over two minutes!
Vehicle has had Private or Cherished Number Plates - A change of number plates could be completely innocent. Or it could be an attempt to conceal a vehicle's dubious history. A vehicle might read all clear under its new registration although it was, perhaps, written-off under its previous plates. For this reason, you need to be sure you have checked a car's history under ALL its number plates - right back to the date of first registration. A check can provide you with that information.
Other examples of
personalised registration
sold for large amounts of money are: ‘1 A’ £202,000; ‘S1 NGH’ (Singh) £108,000;
‘1 RR’ £106,000; ‘G1 LLY’ (Gilly) £87,500; ‘P1 LOT’ (Pilot) £82,500& ‘ ELV
1S’ (Elvis) £75,000.

Thankfully not all
personalised registration

to the Department of Transport on all vehicle to vehicle transfers. Love them
or hate them,
personalised registration
are becoming more and more popular, as a mark of individuality and often as an
investment for the future.
